Moses Lake looks to enact a little playoff revenge against Kennewick

MOSES LAKE — In the playoffs last year Kennewick defeated Moses Lake at home. This year the Lady Chiefs hope they can return the favor.

The Lady Chiefs will take on the Lady Bombers in Kennewick Thursday in a repeat of last year's game.

The double-elimination district playoffs begin and the Lady Chiefs look like a team on a mission.

However, after a split with Kennewick in the regular season, Moses Lake is going into the game with respect for their opponent.

"They're a balanced team with good hitting, pitching and defense," said Moses Lake head coach Alan Coulter.

This season the responsibility of leading the team has often fallen on pitcher, Heather Coulter, and she has been up to the challenge — placing third in strikeouts in the Big Nine and finishing the regular season second on the team in hitting.

Several other players have stepped up their game to make a big push at the end of the season, including the squad's four seniors — Ashley Haight, Mattie Zayas, Shelly McCuistion and Bailey Millican.

Samantha Smith, a freshman, has had the hot bat recently and finished the regular season with a .480 batting average in 12 games.

"We hoped for better defense this season but have been playing pretty good," Coulter said.

The Lady Chiefs have been a little dinged up this season and are taking advantage of the few days off to recuperate for Thursday's game.

Moses Lake is thinking big for Thursday's game; if they win they will play the winner of Richland and Pasco on Saturday. If they advance, they will play in the regional tournament at the end of May.
