MOSES LAKE - The cowboys at the fourth annual Buckin' Blowout performed last Monday night to a sold-out crowd at the Grant County Fairgrounds' Kenny Ardell Pavilion.
It was standing-room only as the crowd cheered on cowboys, donkey riders, and kids stomping balloons and chasing chickens. It was a fun way to ring in the New Year with the family.
In the bull riding event, Jace Berg of Colville spurred his way to the winner's circle with a score of 90 points on the famous and hard-to-ride bull that Layton and McMillan Rodeo Company call Iodine.
The Moses Lake Junior Rodeo Club's very own Dakota Beck, a Moses Lake resident, took home second place in the event on the bull High Rise with a score of 87 points, and Aaron Hammer of Twisp won third place on the Pro-West Bull of the finals, Jimmy's Pride. Local cowboy Jeff Cobb was just out of the money with his score of 84 points on City Slicker.
In the saddle bronc riding competition, the horses were fresh and bucked hard leaving only four cowboys to ride. Danny Alaris of Moxee took home the buckle and first-place prize money with a score of 83 points on the cowboys' favorite, Crows Nest. Gary Alger of Pendleton, Ore., took second on Charlie Brown with a score of 80 points, and former Moses Lake club member and local favorite Jacob Stacy took third with a score of 78 points on Painted Smile.
The bareback horses proved to be just as tough as Jesse Boyde, an 18-year-old from Pomeroy, scored 91 points on one of Layton and McMillan Rodeo's up-and-coming stars they call Fugley. Trevor Mulroney, also of Pomeroy, had an awesome ride on a horse called Shawnee with a score of 86 points, and Orlan McGuffin of Ellensburg spurred 83 points to take home third place.
The Moses Lake Junior Rodeo Club would like to thanks all of the sponsors that came on board to help make this year's rodeo a success. The club will be holding its annual membership drive in February. Any kids interested in Junior Rodeo should attend.
